Benedict Biscop Church of England Academy in Sunderland is an Outstanding Primary School and is the lead primary school in the Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance.
We provide a unique school based learning opportunity in partnership with Durham SCITT (School Centre Initial Teacher Training), graded Outstanding by Ofsted in 2014.
Benedict Biscop Church of England Academy and its partner schools work closely with Durham SCITT to provide outstanding support for teachers at the start of their careers. with extensive experience in providing exceptional training and development opportunities for trainees.
Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance, designated in 2014. It is a unique partnership between secondary and primary schools, working with young people aged 3-19 years.
This unique cross-phase teaching school of which there are, at present seven strategic partners consisting of an already well- establishedpartnership and existing collaboration.
We also actively encourage applicants to apply to our unique school volunteering programme, this offers potential applicants the chance to enhance their UCAS application together with the experience and knowledge required for attending teacher training interviews.
Together with our partner schools we are growing our teacher training programme within primary schools across the North East of England.
In 2019, trainees will be placed in a cluster of eight primary schools, all rated good or outstanding. This schools all share the same vision, excellence in education and life experiences. We provide the highest standards of education and care and encourage our young people to have high aspirations and be confident global citizens.

Who we are and what we do…
Benedict Biscop Church of England Academy in Sunderland and Whitburn Church of England Academy in South Tyneside have been selected by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) to play a leading role in Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance. This unique cross-phase teaching school of which there are, at present seven strategic partners consisting of an already well-establishedpartnership and existing collaboration. We are currently collaborating with over 150 schools across the North East
Prince Bishops Teaching School Alliance will focus on school improvement across all phases, including a strong emphasis on raising achievement for all pupils.
