World War 2
This term we have been looking at World War 2 in year 6. We’ve studied various elements including how Hitler came to power, the Blitz and evacuees, allies and axis powers, Pearl Harbour and the atomic bombings. To end our theme we decided to have V.E day celebration where we all came dressed as evacuees.
We reviewed what we had learned so far and listened to the radio broadcast from Winston Churchill which told us about the end of the war. We imagined how it would feel to have listened to the announcement at the time. We decided to have a V.E celebration so we got straight to work. We used our mathematical and design skills to measure and make bunting, calculate the cost of shopping and make a classic war time favourite dessert- bread and butter pudding! Yum!
After spending the whole morning organising the party, we went outside for lunch and played some typical wartime games. Our teachers had been extremely busy whilst we were playing and over lunchtime they had transformed the classroom into a celebration banquet. We had sweet treats galore, with bread and butter sandwiches too- we’re still on rations you know!
We danced and listened to wartime songs and had a brilliant sing along too. What a fantastic day.
