Admissions

The Governing Body of Benedict Biscop CE Academy is the Admissions Authority for the school on behalf of the Academy Trust. This means that a committee of the governing body consider all applications sent to them by the Local Authority, according to the criteria as stated below. This policy has been agreed following consultation between the Governing Body, the Diocesan Board of Education, all other Admissions Authorities in the area and interested parties and parents through our web site. This policy gives regard to the “School Standards and Framework Act 1998, as amended by the Education Act 2011,” “School Admissions (Admission Arrangements and Co-ordination of Admissions Arrangements (England) Regulations 2012” and “School Admissions Code, February 2012.”

For further information about our admissions please see documents below alternatively, please visit www.sunderland.gov.uk.

*Please note that if your child is allocated a place within our Nursery cohort that this DOES NOT guarantee place within the Reception cohort at school. All families must reapply for a Reception place. All applications for Reception places will be ranked according to the criteria set out in our admissions policy.

In year transfers

If you are looking to transfer your child’s school outside of typical admissions time of Nursery, Reception and Secondary school you would need to complete a school transfer form which can be found on the Sunderland Council website here: https://www.sunderland.gov.uk/schools-admissions. We would then follow the process set out below. Please contact us if you would like any further information on this.

45 PAN

In 2019, the school was extended by the Local Authority and it moved from a 30 PAN to a 45 PAN. To accommodate the 45 PAN the school now operates mixed aged classes. To ensure a fair and transparent process, pupils are grouped into classes based on their age [D.O.B]. Class constitutions are subject to change each year because of this, however please note that this is a system that is operated in several schools and is common practice in education and mixed aged teaching provides several benefits.
